1 John 3:1 - Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
This is the sonship God wants us to come into, it is the height of sonship in Him. ‘Sons of God’ is what we should be called. The promise is to be a son of God, which is Eternal Life. This sonship is life eternal. To this end, the Father had to allocate love toward us, which will translate us into being sons of God.
1 John 3:2 - Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
‘What we shall be’ is still the son of God. It is a Son (Christ Jesus) that will appear and such manifestation is the gift of God. However, it is the prerogative of the Head of the Church to invest the power of revelation of this Son in the sons of God. The Son blesses and dispenses in appearances, and anytime He appears, He does something.
1 John 3:3 - And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
These are men with the hope of being begotten of God. Sonship really begins from the doctrine of faith. Christ is a beloved Son; He is the Son of purity that purifies. The revelation of Christ Jesus is the revelation of purity, intended to purify us from the world; Christ is the Savior of a man from the world. The world is impure, and the killer of the lusts of the world is the revelation of Christ. Christ is the first purity of God.
Nevertheless, a soul can be pure and still not be saved. To seal a soul from turning back into impurity is another level of sonship; it is beyond the revelation of Christ. At New Birth, the spirit is pure, but not yet saved. It has been created in true holiness and righteousness (Ephesians 4:24); this is faith to charity, because righteousness comes by faith (Romans 1:17).
Romans 1:1 - Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
There is the gospel of God and the gospel of Christ, but the whole gospel is a journey. One cannot recognize the devil until he begins to know Christ. It will take the doctrine of Christ to deliver someone from the power of satan. Therefore, every believer that does not know Christ is still under the power of the devil; and as such still operates by his power.
The devil gives an alternative life; he is a giver of life. Darkness is a gift, men love it and go for it (John 3:19). The devil has packaged it as a love gift. The devil is a master of Scripture and can use it against a son of God (Matthew 4:4); even Jesus was tempted with Scripture. Howbeit, no demon has power over ‘it is written’ because that is what created them. When a believer uses the written word to cast out demons, they leave; every spirit responds to faith, but they can throw doubt to men's hearts.
1 John 3:3 - And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
We have to be pure to purify ourselves again for the next level of sonship. All hope lies in a Son. The hope of God is in a Son; and when He subjected the creature in hope, it was in hope of a Son (Romans 8:20). God is waiting for sons who can handle coruruption, and nothing can handle corruption but men with the glorious liberty, men who are incorruptible. Thus, there must be the giving of the glorious liberty.
Romans 8:21-23 - Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
What makes creation groan is corruption. It is only sons that will help the Church get into the redemption of the body - incorruption.
1 John 3:4-8 - Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The devil sinneth from the beginning; this is more than the chronicles of time, it is talking about a place in the Spirit where he sinned from. All that John was dealing with is the beginning.
1 John 1:1 - That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
This is not the word of Christ but the word of Eternal Life. Christ is the life of Eternal Life for Eternal Life, and He (Christ) had to be taught this Life to have it. Jesus was Eternal Life, He left that state for a while and later returned to it (John 1:1). This is what this Scripture referred to as ‘was’. There was a season He had life but not Eternal Life. From the house of Mary and Joseph, God began to give Him life, and later He was given Eternal Life (John 3:35).
Eternal Life is planted in a man without his doing anything; but then he needs to commit himself to it to inherit it. Eternal Life is very much at home with God. Jesus was first fashioned as a man, so He had to prove to God that man can inherit Eternal Life. This Eternal Life is not forced on any man, it needs to be accepted willingly, and this comes by not loving your life.
Jesus had the ability to live as a mere man, because He was fully man. He became what we were so that we can become what He is right now (Philippians 2:8). Satan went after Jesus wanting to kill Him, but Jesus overcame him. He left Jesus for a season in the wilderness, scared (Luke 4:13), having discovered that a full man was tempted and yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15). We do not know satan well enough; as you study scripture and as you grow, you will see the adversary and then you will be sober and vigilant (1 Peter 5:8).
1 John 1:2-3 - (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that Eternal Life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
John was showing us how Eternal Life comes to us. John is not referring to all Christians here.
1 John 2:12 - I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
By reason of learning Christ, the audience John is speaking to have become sons of God, but John calls them little children; little children are sons of God. He called them little children with regards to the level of their meekness.
Romans 1:5 - By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
This is the name of faith that Jesus bears; this name forgives sin and converts men to become children that can enter the Kingdom.
1 John 2:13 - I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
The young men ought to be fathers, but they must first overcome the wicked one. When they overcome him then they will know Him who is from the beginning. The verse above does not mean the young men have already overcome, but that they have what it takes to overcome the wicked one. They have the incorruptible seed.
On the other hand, the fathers have known He who is from the beginning; and this means they have seen the Son of God because He is in the beginning. John was introducing this group of people to a fellowship, and if he was writing to them, it means he was already called into that fellowship. This means there are levels in the realm of the begotten.
1 John 2:14 - I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
For the word of God to abide in a man is an announcement that the wicked one will be overcome; what he has in him is a seed to overcome the wicked one. The wicked one is higher than the world. The statement, ‘Your sins are forgiven’, is enough to overcome sin.
John was writing in an ascending order, as the meekness of the little children is actually the greatest. The younger our minds are, the more God dominates. The child that can carry God is not an ordinary child; that is a full-blown son. ‘The fathers’ begin the sonship that is beyond Christ; but ‘the young men’ are Christs that have just received the gift to become.
When God is in love with a man, He will give him things that will make sonship possible. For John to write to the fathers, it means he was in a higher level of sonship (1 John 2:13). He companied with some people he referred to as ‘us’, and this company had gone beyond the state of the fathers and the little children.
Immortality cannot be gotten by only studying the scriptures are claiming it. Cain and Abel were both young men, they had what it takes to be priests after the order of righteousness; but the transgression of the law was the sin of Cain (1 John 3:12). Satan also broke the law of life; he killed himself, and this took some time. He even went further and convinced other angels, teaching them how to detach from life.
‘The beginning’ is the realm where God is unveiled; created sons of God are there and they know God. Satan, having such knowledge, transgressed, meaning he broke the things and codes that made him up. What made him commit the sin is that he wanted to change his estate; he was not content with what God gave him. When he fell, the works that constituted him died and new works were born, which is the devil. Works were in him (Ezekiel 28:13, 17), but he turned beauty to evil; he turned wisdom to corruption. Corruption is the work of the created son that fell from the third heaven, and it will take Sons that are not corrupted to break the bondage of corruption.
Hebrews 1:5-6 - For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
Angels of God are the highest class of angels; and so, God was telling the angels in the scripture above that Jesus’ works are superior to theirs. For you to be called a begotten Son of God, you must have works that will qualify you to be begotten of God. A man's works determines what kind of Son he is.
1 John 3:5-8 - And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
To commit sin is not to make mistake. To commit sin is to be committed to the devil, it is what makes the antichrist the man of sin. When a man commits sin, he gets rewarded with death. Death is departure from God; it is the name of blasphemy. And it is with this name of blasphemy that the antichrist will have power to rule nations, and to become one with the devil.
Death is what pulls apart; it can be some kind of life that satan will offer which would make a man not see a need for God. When the man of sin comes and offers a wicked life, it will be in such a way that some saints would not be able to resist it. Hence, the need for the word of God. The purpose of the word of God is to overcome the wicked one. There are two realms that have to do with our commitment and there is one test we will have to carry out to fully receive all that is of the Son.
Isaiah 62:11 - Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
A daughter of Zion is a very high person, She is a Church that the Groom can impregnate with His seed. They are men whose souls have the ability to pull the Head of the Church out of His chamber and cause Him to appear.
Reward is closer to the Groom than works, and so works must go before a reward. Salvation is both of works and reward. When He comes, He will give revelation of works to be done, and when they are done, He comes quickly with His reward (Revelation 22:12). The fathers in 1 John 2:14 are like the daughters of Zion; John was calling them up to receive more of God's purpose.
Isaiah 25:6 - And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.
There are two kinds of feasts, and both are in the incorruptible seed. The feast of fat things is also the feast of charity, because God wants a liberal soul to be made fat. The seven churches (Revelations 2&3) are churches of works, full of fathers with the incorruptible seed, but even at that, satan still warred against them. Therefore, we must keep the feast of the incorruptible seed pure to the end.
Revelation 2:1-5 - Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
First love is first works. When Jesus came to the churches, He wanted to know what they were doing. Many of them had passed the test of faith and had gone beyond the sanctification of the Spirit. Between the golden altar of incense and the veil into the most holy is a very long distance/journey; but what makes it long is the warfare. The Ephesian church had done Christ well; but when He came to their first love, they had left it. First love is the love of God not the love of Christ, it is the incorruptible seed.
1 Peter 1:22 - Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
We obey with our souls. This incorruptible seed is higher than truth. One can live but may not abide. The church at Ephesus did live but they departed from living. When a man comes into the program of the seed of God, the first thing he learns is to live, and that learning gives birth to him and makes him a first son, which is the first work; works are sons. Those who do this first work are committed to the first love. There is a love of God beyond charity. Charity is a very high law (1Timothy 1:5), but it is the end of the commandment of all that Christ is.
God's purpose is for us to receive the incorruptible seed (1 Pet.1:23). Christ is the seed of Abraham, but sons of God are the seed of God directly. When we are learning Christ, we are becoming Abraham's seeds in our souls so that we can be heirs of the promise. This learning is for the purpose of inheritance.
1 Peter 1:3-4 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
This is not New Birth; but the birth of sanctification. The word ‘reserved’ in the verse above also means ‘Garrison’, meaning the military power of God is keeping this inheritance. Everything about the inheritance is incorruptible, but it is also in phases. This is the salvation of the soul.
1 Peter 1:23-25 - Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
A soul can live but not abide. The end of the works is in the realm of the abode. The person of God is not just measured out as Christ but also as all that He is to get us saved.
1 Peter 2:1-2 - Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
These babes are the ‘first child’ being called into another growth of God. And the milk of the Word which they are to drink is not just milk but is the milk of the incorruptible seed, the milk of the Word of God. The issue of sonship is not ordinary, it is an oath. This milk is a promise by which the soul will grow, it will later become honey, which will make the soul abide. The purpose of the strong meat is to make our souls incorruptible.
These are tidings of joy (1 John 1:4). We will inherit the nature of incorruption. Salvation begins with incorruption and ends with immortality; it houses both. We will be taught the lesson of incorruption by the Head of the Church!
